Projects and Commercial Director
Job Description
• Set the company’s commercial and project governance strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, risk appetite and regulatory obligations.
• Provide independent, authoritative insight on commercial exposure, project risk, program confidence, market conditions and financial performance.
• Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team, contractual and project-related matters.
• Establish and sponsor the company-wide commercial framework, ensuring consistency, proportionality and effective governance across all business units and project types.
• Ensure that appropriate contracting strategies and risk transfer mechanisms are in place for complex engineering and regulated-market projects (NEC, JCT, FIDIC, MoD, nuclear, rail or infrastructure frameworks).
• Provide executive oversight of contract negotiation, claims strategy, variation management and dispute resolution on major or high-risk contracts.
• Sponsor and approve commercial governance processes for major bids and projects, ensuring risks, opportunities, pricing, and contractual positions are fully understood
• Act as executive sponsor for major and strategically significant projects, providing governance, challenge and assurance rather than operational management.
• Ensure the business has a fit-for-purpose project management and project assurance framework, aligned to scale, risk and regulatory environment.
Experience Required
• Significant experience as a senior Commercial Manager, Commercial Director, or Project Director within engineering, manufacturing, construction, or regulated industries.
• Deep knowledge of commercial management and project management frameworks within complex engineering contracts
• Expert working knowledge of NEC, JCT or other engineering/regulated-market contract forms.
• Demonstrable experience operating at, or working closely with, board or executive level.
• Proven track record in building and leading high-performing teams.
• Strong negotiation, risk management, change control and dispute resolution capability.
• Highly commercial mindset with strong financial acumen
About The Company
• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Law, Engineering or similar.
• Experience in defense, nuclear, rail, infrastructure, or other highly regulated sectors.
